Interesting podcast, I particularly enjoyed the discussion around Conspiracy for Good, it’s really good to see alternative mechanisms for serious ARGs to the ‘homework’ style (hope that name doesn’t stick
) that Brooke mentioned. They do a great job of raising awareness of causes and issues (and also of ARGs in general), but perhaps less well with tangible real-world outcomes.
I’ve been wondering how Conspiracy for Good will quantify their success at the end? Awareness is fairly easy to do, you can count players, attendence at events, press coverage and page views, but in terms of tangible real-world outcomes (awareness being fuzzy and ephemeral) would it be the number of volunteers that charities get through the project? Probably a tiny number compared to the number of players (though even 1 is wonderful). The concern for me is that if they don’t get the volunteers then they could be considered to have failed in their remit and ARGs again become less attractive to charities.
I’m assuming that the events will involve doing something good too – are they going to be Cruel 2 B Kind type make someone happy good things, or raise cold, hard, cash good things?

It’s my understanding that it’s going to be more of a, well, tangible good things. I’m actually hoping to get someone from the game to come on a netcast later in the summer to talk about the project.
