As was reported yesterday on our Twitter feed, the ARG Netcast is alive and kicking after all! I’d like to welcome in the shiny new host of the podcast, a voice you will already know and love, Mr. Steve Peters! Steve is affectionately known as the Godfather of Alternate Reality Gaming (the GARG?) and has been a frequent guest on the ARG Netcasts over the past 3+ years. I am happy as can be that the podcast will continue to be a part of the growing transmedia community, and hope that you all continue to listen in as Steve takes the reins. There’s no word as to what kind of recording schedule Steve will implement, and when the next new episode of the ARG Netcast will be, but I’m sure that Steve will let you all know as soon as he can.

So, for the last time (from me, anyway), thanks for all of the support you all have given us over the years, and continued best wished to Steve and his podcasting crew!

For those who weren’t listening live on February 8th, we had an announcement during episode 114 that you may not have heard yet, and that is that we are wrapping up production of the ARG Netcasts in March. While this is sad news, we consider ourselves lucky to have been a part of your lives since October of 2006. Our last shows are shaping up to be some of our very best, with scheduled guests such as No Mimes Media and Lone Sharks Games confirmed for the next two episodes.

We have three shows remaining, tentatively: February 22 (No Mimes Media), March 8 (Lone Shark Games), and the finale on March 22. We hope that you can all make it to the live shows and that you enjoy this last stretch of the podcasts.

Changing Hosts, Temporary Service Interruption Possible

The Times, They Are A-Changing

I was so excited about the new voicemail number we got yesterday (which, after 24 hours, it seems we didn’t need to get, but oh well) that I forgot to mention that the live recording time for the netcast is changing. Partly due to demands (apparently, we are up against Big Bang Theory in the US) but mostly due to personal schedule, the netcast recording is moving to 9 pm CT on Monday nights. That’s only a half hour later than what is has been, so it’s not a monumental change, but significant for those that tune in live each week. As well, because of commitments through the week, the netcast will regularly be published on Saturdays, so that’s when you can look for it through iTunes or similar podcast clients.

Thanks for continuing to listen, tune in, and help out. We love you guys!

Video Netcast Issues with iPhones and iPods

Hey listeners/viewers! It has come to our understanding that some of the most recent video netcasts aren’t formatted properly for viewing on the iPod Touch and iPhone devices. I will re-encode the videos and release them as soon as possible, so watch the feed for those. Thanks to our friend Brian Enigma for alerting us to the issue.

Announcement – Dave Szulborski

As many of you already know, the alternate reality gaming community lost a friend and inspiration last week with the passing of Dave Szulborski. Dave was a leader in the development and promotion of ARGs, and authored two books on the subject. He was a guest on the netcast a few times, and was the center of attention for episode 24, The Szulbosrki Show. We would like to remember and celebrate Dave by re-airing episode 24 on Monday night at 7:30 pm CT. The rebroadcast will take place on our live stream at Ustream, which you can hear by visiting live.argnetcast.com. The stream has an IRC chat in which you can share your thoughts and memories of Dave as the episode plays. After the rebroadcast, we will have a new episode at our regularly scheduled time of 8:30 pm CT featuring the team behind Ruby’s Bequest, which recently wrapped up.

We hope you can join us on Monday and we extend our deepest sympathies to Dave’s family and friends and all of you who were lucky enough to have met Dave or played one of his many games.

JC Hutchins to be guest on tomorrow’s netcast

The author of 7th Son, a podcast novel trilogy, and the upcoming Personal Effects: Dark Art will be on to discuss his work, his interests in alternate reality gaming, and many other topics. Hey listeners,

We are moving our site over to argnetcast.com and have (hopefully) worked out many of the kinks. However, we know that there is a problem with the iTunes store feed, and we have sent Apple an email regarding the problem. Hopefully, everything sorts itself out in the next few days and we can get back to business as usual.

Edit: As of 10:25 pm CT, the feed issues seem to be resolved. Happy downloading!

Hey all!

We will have the next episode of the ARG Netcast ready tonight or early tomorrow, but in the meantime, we have some exciting news — our new web site!

If you visit www.argnetcast.com (as opposed to the familiar argnetcast.info), you will see a familiar sight. Yes, that’s right, we now have a dot-com address secured for the netcast!

We will be migrating things over to the dot-com site, and developing a new look for the site, but until that’s ready to go, continue to use the dot-info site.

Delay with episode 71

I didn’t even think to mention this on the last netcast, but this coming Monday is Thanksgiving in Canada, and due to my family commitments, we will not be recording a show. Changes to the netcast: Streaming, Scheduling

A quick bit of housekeeping as we get back into the swing of things…

(1) We will be streaming live audio/video at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/arg-netcast each and every time we record the audio version. With the video stream, we also have a live chat room that listeners can be a part of — during last week’s Ustream experiment, the chat denizens were very helpful in contributing to the conversation, and we expect future netcasts to be the same.

(2) We will be adopting a new recording schedule starting, um, now. Recording for the netcast will now take place each Monday at 8:30 pm CT, with the edited version of the program showing up shortly thereafter. And yes, we know that’s a bit late for our UK listeners, but it’s the best time for our regular panelists and co-hosts.

We thank all of our listeners for their continued support, and hope to hear from many of through voicemail, email, and perhaps, during the live chats at Ustream!

Videos not iPod friendly?

Thanks to a tip from BrianEnigma, we’ve come to understand that the ARG Video Netcasts aren’t playing nice with iPods or iPhones, but fear not, because we plan on re-encoding video episodes 1, 2 and 3 sometime tomorrow which will hopefully fix the problem. We encoded episode 4 a little differently, so please let us know if it works or not — we’ll test it out on the iPod Touch we have kicking around the office.

Hey faithful listeners!

I know that it’s been a while since you’ve heard from the ARG Netcast crew, and some of you might be wondering where we’ve been. Well, it’s all my fault, really. I had a few work-related tasks to finish up in the past three weeks, and I’m currently on vacation with my family, so finding time to record has been tough. However, we are coming back soon with new episodes, and I do have a clip show in the works that should be ready by sometime this week.

The Skypecast is having technical issues, so we’re making this week’s recording a conference call instead. We are going to run it as a conference call, so if you’d like to be invited, find me (argjamesi) on the Skype network and send me a request through a chat. The call caps out at ten participants, so we may not be able to get you in, but it doesn’t hurt to try.

Further update: We couldn’t even get the conference call to work properly, and have rescheduled the live chat to 5 pm CT (6 pm ET, 3 pm PT, 11 pm GMT). We will hve a link up shortly for the new Skypecast room.

Another update: The new Skypecast room is located here. If you aren’t able to connect right away, try again — it might take a bit of time to connect, given our troubles from earlier.

PROMO: Episode 50 – LIVE ARGfest-o-Con Discussion

We have finally figured out how to conduct a live, online town hall discussion that can be recorded for a netcast episode, and what better topic to talk to the masses about than ARGfest-o-con 2008? The official announcement regarding this year’s festivities will take place this Sunday at 1 pm CT (2 pm ET, 11 am PT) via Skypecast!

You can participate in the live discussion by joining us — but you must be a registered Skype user, as far as we understand the inner workings of the system. We are looking forward to this, though, so come one, come all!
